Plywood
Australian Standard AS2270 provides details about veneer quality and glue bond requirements for plywood products. Veneers fall into three face grade categories – ‘A’ for select, ‘B’ for general purpose and ‘S’ for decorative applications. (‘S’ contains more knots, gum veins etc., and the amount should be agreed with the supplier). There are also two lower quality grades (‘C’ and ‘D’) for the back faces of sheets. The latter permits the highest amount of imperfections, and if this is a concern, grade ‘C’ should be specified. When ordering veneered plywood the face grade is given first followed by the back grade, e.g. ‘AC’.

AS2270 also defines two types of glue bond, ‘C’ and ‘D’. The former is for normal areas, while the latter for high humidity areas. To avoid confusion these letters should be specified separately from the veneer grade lettering.
