Specifying Landscape Timbers
Landscape - Bridge
Sawn timbers used in ground contact are usually unseasoned, treated or naturally durable. Those in above ground exterior environments may be unseasoned or seasoned, treated or naturally durable.

Timbers that support structural load are required to be stress graded to Australian Standard AS2082 Hardwood - Visually Stress Graded for Structural Purposes.

Sawn timber that does not support structural loads is not required to be stress graded.

Round log or pole is a common form of timber for landscaping structures.

Round timbers come in the following forms:

  • Natural Round – round timbers that have a natural taper and shape.
  • Multi-sided (facetted) tapered – usually machined to have the sapwood removed. Commonly used for power poles.
